Mariana Xavier

Having won over thousands of theatregoers in Brazil, Mariana Xavier comes to the Salão Preto e Prata with "Antes do Ano Que Vem", an irresistible comedy that combines humour, emotion and an impressive cast of characters.

On New Year’s Eve, an employee at a support centre finds herself having to take calls from people in the throes of emotional turmoil. Amidst outbursts, crises and utterly unexpected situations, Mariana Xavier, alone on stage, brings to life a cast of characters as entertaining as they are moving, in an extraordinary display of acting.

With a script by Gustavo Pinheiro and directed by Ana Paula Bouzas and Lázaro Ramos, “Before the New Year” transforms themes such as mental health, loneliness and the search for happiness into an experience brimming with intelligent humour, sensitivity and relatability.

An engaging comedy that promises plenty of laughter, emotional moments and the certainty that, sometimes, laughter really is the best medicine.
