Shrek is an ogre who lives happily and alone in a swamp in Far Far Away. His peace is threatened when the local ruler, Lord Farquaad, sends all the magical creatures from his kingdom to live there.

To get rid of them, the ogre makes a deal with Farquaad: he will retrieve the “piece” that would make Lord Farquaad’s kingdom complete. That piece is Fiona, a politically incorrect princess imprisoned in a castle guarded by a dragon.

Shrek and his friend Donkey set off on a mission to rescue her. And they succeed. But Shrek falls in love with Fiona and begins fighting to win her heart.
