Broadway Baby

The show “BROADWAY BABY” will once again be staged at the Casino Estoril Auditorium, on 17 and 24 July.

Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Theatre Actor in 2012, BROADWAY BABY returns to the Auditorium.

On the west side of New York, roughly from 42nd Street up towards Central Park, dazzling theatres line the streets, lit up by their iconic illuminated signs. More than 20, more than 30, more than 40 venues — this is Broadway. It was in this setting that the American Musical was born and established itself.

In a captivating show, Henrique Feist takes us through this fascinating history, from its origins to the so-called “Disney invasion” of Broadway — the moment that would mark the beginning of a new chapter. But let us go back: why did the theatres settle there? Who were the first writers and composers? What makes these songs timeless? What is this dream called Broadway?

Broadway lives on whenever someone, anywhere in the world, whistles Blue Moon or sings I’ve Got You Under My Skin. It lives in films such as West Side Story, Hair, Chicago and Dreamgirls; in series such as Will & Grace, Glee, Smash and Schmigadoon!; and in the repertoires of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Jamie Cullum and Lady Gaga.

Broadway exists because some dreams are too big to fit anywhere else.
