Broadway Baby

Broadway, more than a New York city district, is a state of mind.

10 years later, this show returns to the Casino Estoril Auditorium for one last performance.

In the West Side of New York, starting around 42nd street and almost reaching Central Park, theatres magically line up, dazzling with their glowing billboards. There are more than 20, more than 30, more than 40. This is Broadway. Here, the American Musical took shape and form.

In a captivating show, Henrique Feist narrates how it all happened. But the tale halts at Broadway’s invasion by Disney. Because after that point it became a different show. Rewinding a bit: Why did theatres start to open in this area of the city? Who were the pioneering playwrights? And the original composers? What makes their songs so extraordinary? What is this dream called Broadway

In truth, Broadway lives wherever someone, anywhere on earth, whistles Blue Moon or hums I've Got You Under My Skin. When you watch movies like West Side Story, Hair, Chicago, or Dreamgirls, Broadway is there with you. Broadway is alive when you watch musicals streamed from its theatres. Broadway thrives in series like Will and Grace, Glee, Smash, and Schmigadoon. Broadway resonates in many of the albums of Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Jamie Cullum, and Lady Gaga.  Broadway exists because some dreams are so vast, they can't fit anywhere else. Broadway, more than a New York city district, is a state of mind.
